After coming in as a member of head coach Adia Barnes’ most highly-touted class in 2018-19, Arizona sophomore guard Bryce Nixon announced that she has entered the transfer portal. Nixon made the announcement on social media Thursday afternoon.

Nixon came to Arizonas out of Arcadia High Schol as a three-star recruit who excelled as a great passer with a high basketball IQ according to ESPN HoopGurlz. Prospects Nation rated her as a four-star prospect.

As a senior at Arcadia in Phoenix, she averaged 18.6 points, 5.3 assists and 4.0 steals per game. She was most touted on the defensive end, earning the 5A Defensive Player of the Year her senior season.

With Arizona’s stacked backcourt and wing, she’s had difficulty finding playing time since arriving in Tucson. Nixon appeared in 33 games while averaging 8.5 minutes per game her freshman season. As a sophomore, that fell to just 5.8 mpg in 16 games. She played just 18 minutes in Pac-12 play, appearing in seven conference games.

In two seasons with the Wildcats, she averaged 1.5 ppg and 0.6 apg over 49 appearances.

Nixon was the first reserve off the bench in Arizona’s season opener against North Dakota, playing a season-high 16 minutes. After the game, her coach praised her work ethic and contribution to the Wildcats’ culture.

“We value being a great teammate,” Barnes said at the time. “Our culture is the most important thing in this program, Bryce does all those things So to me, she earned that. She had incredible offseason. She completely changed her body. She’s a great teammate, she does everything I ask.”

Nixon’s departure opens a scholarship spot that the Wildcats can use to add another transfer or high-school recruit.
