Arizona stays put in AP Top 25, despite historic road win at Oregon State

Despite securing its first-ever road win over a top-10 team, the Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team remains ranked No. 12 in the AP Top 25.

It is still UA’s highest ranking since the 1997-98 season when the Wildcats ascended as high as No. 7 in the AP poll.

Arizona (19-4, 8-4) knocked off No. 9 Oregon State in overtime Sunday, a terrific response from a blowout loss to No. 3 Oregon on Friday.

The Beavers dropped to No. 11 in the AP poll, receiving two more votes than the Wildcats. Oregon State did beat Arizona on its homecourt in January, so that ranking can be justified.

Arizona returns home this weekend to host Washington and Washington State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Both teams reside in the bottom third of the conference, making for games that the Wildcats should win, though the Pac-12 has been wildly unpredictable this season.

The other Pac-12 teams in the AP Top 25 are Oregon (3), UCLA (7), Stanford (8) and ASU (22).

The Wildcats are in third place in the conference, one game ahead of OSU, two games behind UCLA and Stanford, and three games behind Oregon.

The NCAA Tournament selection committee revealed its top 16 overall seeds last Monday, and the Wildcats checked in at No. 13, putting them on track to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

Their win at Oregon State should only fortify their chances, even if it did not change their standing in the eyes of AP voters.
