Former Arizona standout Rondae Hollis-Jefferson set to become unrestricted free agent

It appears that Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s tenure with the team that drafted him is over.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Brooklyn Nets have declined to make a qualifying offer on Hollis-Jefferson. As a result, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The 24-year-old small forward is coming off an injury-plagued 2018-19 season, his fourth in the league, in which he was limited to 59 games and just 21 starts. Hollis-Jefferson averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds, far down from his career-best averages of 13.9 and 6.8 in 2017-18.

Hollis-Jefferson, who earned $2.47 million this past season, was eligible for a 1-year, $3.59 million qualifying offer from the Nets, per The Athletic’s Michael Scotto. With Brooklyn opting not to make that offer it means the former Wildcat can sign with any team without restriction.

A first-round pick (23^rd overall) of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2015 NBA Draft, Hollis-Jefferson was traded to Brooklyn on draft night. He played two seasons with Arizona, averaging 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in 76 games from 2013-15.
