Arizona signee Terry Armstrong to skip college, pursue pro opportunities

Arizona Wildcats signee Terry Armstrong is forgoing college to pursue professional opportunities, according to Stockrisers’ Jake Weingarten and Jon Rothstein of CBS.

A four-star recruit, the 6-foot-6 Armstrong is ranked as the No. 60 player in the 2019 class, per 247Sports composite rankings. He was expected to be a key piece off the bench in 2019-20 and then potentially a starter for Arizona from thereon.

Armstrong’s departure brings Arizona down to 13 scholarship players for the 2019-20 season, the maximum allowed for Division I teams. The Wildcats went over the limit when they added Nevada transfer Jordan Brown earlier this month.

In May, Armstrong seemed to ward off speculation that he would not be honoring his commitment to Arizona by posting a picture of himself in a UA uniform with the caption: “I never left.”

Corey Evans of Rivals.com says there was speculation as to whether or not Armstrong would have the grades to qualify.

“Terry brings a kind of toughness to our program that all of us would love to have as coaches,” UA head coach Sean Miller said in November after Armstrong signed a National Letter of Intent. “He also has great size for a wing and guard. It’s not that he has one thing that he does well, it’s the versatility I think that jumps off the page when you watch him. He’s in a program right now that’s playing against the best competition in America at the high school level. I’m anxious for him to have a great senior year. I think he’ll be able to come in and affect our program right away.”
