Arizona signee Terry Armstrong shuts down speculation: ‘I never left’

At some point after he signed his National Letter of Intent in November, Terry Armstrong unpinned the tweet in which he announced his commitment to the Arizona Wildcats.

That, plus the fact Arizona is over the scholarship limit and Sean Miller‘s name was repeatedly thrown around during the federal college basketball corruption trial, fueled some speculation that the 6-foot-6 Armstrong would not be joining the Wildcats as originally planned.

So much for that. Armstrong, seemingly aware of the noise, took to Twitter on Thursday to make a statement.

“I never left,” he said, along with the bear down emojis and a picture of him wearing an Arizona uniform.

A four-star wing from Flint, Michigan, Armstrong is the No. 60 recruit in the country, per 247Sports. He projects to be a key bench player for the Wildcats in 2019-20, filling in for starters Brandon Williams and Josh Green on the perimeter.

“Terry brings a kind of toughness to our program that all of us would love to have as coaches,” Miller said in November. “He also has great size for a wing and guard. It’s not that he has one thing that he does well, it’s the versatility I think that jumps off the page when you watch him. He’s in a program right now (Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale) that’s playing against the best competition in America at the high school level. I’m anxious for him to have a great senior year. I think he’ll be able to come in and affect our program right away.”

The Wildcats’ 2019 class is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, setting them up for a bounceback season.

“We got a great class coming in and I’m just ready to play and see what we can do,” Armstrong recently said at the BallIsLife All-American Game.
