Former Arizona star Bobby Dalbec earns minor-league promotion from Red Sox

Bobby Dalbec was a do-everything player for Arizona during his college baseball career, never more so than during the Wildcats’ run to the College World Series final in 2016.

Since being drafted by the Boston Red Sox that year, however, Dalbec has focused on becoming a hitter capable of making the majors. That’s probably still a few years away, but the season he’s having at Class A Salem (Mass.) shows he’s on the right path.

Those numbers were good enough for Dalbec to earn a promotion to Boston’s Double-A team in Portland, Maine.

Dalbec was hitting .256 at Salem and in two-plus seasons in the minors has batted .274 with 46 home runs and 159 RBI in 219 games. At Arizona he hit .282 from 2014-16 with 24 homers and 123 RBI while recording 17 wins and 14 saves as a pitcher.
