Arizona football: Where are they now?

Taking a look at where some former Arizona players and commits landed after parting ways with the UA

Rosters across the college football world are being updated and I thought it would be interesting to see where some of the former Arizona Wildcats ended up.

Over the past few years, Arizona has seen a large quantity of transfers, medical retirements or guys who flipped to another program.

I went deep into the 247Sports profiles, online rosters, Twitter and Instagram searches to track down many former Arizona players and commits.

Here is the recap of notable departures and discoveries I found from the 2014-2018 recruiting classes.

2014 Class

TE Trevor Wood made the decision to graduate transfer and will play at Texas A&M this season.

DT Marcus Griffin made the decision to graduate transfer and will play at Central Michigan this season.

QB Brandon Dawkins made the decision to graduate transfer and will play at Indiana this season.

RB Jon Haden transferred from Arizona after moving around from running back to slot. He ended up at UAB and will finish his final year of eligibility.

WR/CB Cam Denson was the hometown hero and played significantly at corner during his early years. Things just didn’t pan out and he flipped to wide receiver. He later medically retired and is now listed on the NAU roster.

WR Kaelin Deboskie was with the team for one season before transferring in 2015. He was last seen at Pima Community College for the 2017 season.

LB Marquis Ware, WR Jordan Morgan, and DT Sharif Williams did not return to football after medically retiring. OL Jordan Poland was arrested for kidnapping for ransom.

2015 Class

OT Keenan Walker ran into some trouble at Arizona and left the program. He landed at Independence CC but suffered a knee injury and required surgery. He appears to be back this season.

TE/DE Darrell Cloy started on offense and flipped to defense. He then medically retired and is now at Cerritos College

DT Anthony Fotu was a junior college transfer who contributed immediately in 2015 but was removed from the program for disciplinary issues. He was out of football but is now at West Georgia.

WR Darrell Clark never made it to Arizona due to academics. He was at Pima for a season before heading to Grambling State where he is classified as a redshirt junior.

DE Timmy Hamilton was Last seen at Friends College in 2017. He left Arizona after a week of fall camp, headed closer to home and transferred to Kansas for a year. Then later on landed at Friends College.

OT Harper Sherman remains away from football, after suddenly leaving the program in 2017.

RB Orlando Bradford will serve 2-7 years in jail after being charged with 10 felonies and five misdemeanors.

TE Brion Anduze medically retired and did not return to football after suffering a gruesome knee injury in the spring of 2016.

OLB Kendal Franklin was dismissed from Arizona, played at McNese State for a bit and returned to Tucson but did not rejoin the team.

2016 Class

S/OLB Gavin Robertson suddenly left the program this winter after being next in line to play weak side linebacker. Tony Fields II won that job and Robertson ended up at Montana.

DE Francisco Nelson did not see playing time in his two years at Arizona and recently transferred to Campbell University

DT Justin Holt appears to be at Pima Community College. After medically retiring from Arizona spring of 2017, he landed at Eastern Arizona. His Instagram shows a photo of him participating in Pima practices this offseason.

LB Kahi Neves appears to be out of football after suddenly leaving the program prior to the 2017 season.

QB Shea Patterson was committed to Arizona while his brother was a member of the staff. His brother then left for LSU and eventually made it Ole Miss, where Shea signed. After NCAA sanctions came down with Hugh Freeze he requested to transfer and is now at Michigan. He was the No. 4 player in the country in the 2016 class.

QB Devon Modster left for UCLA, when at the time Arizona had both Khalil Tate and Braxton Burmeister committed. He in the running for QB1 under Chip Kelly.

RB Sean Riley was told he was going to be a gray shirt late in the process and flipped to Syracuse. He has contributed as a kick returned and receiver for the Orange.

RB Russell Halimon never made it to campus due to academics. There is no evidence of him playing football since.

RB Tyliek Raynor was pushed out of the class and ended up close to home at Temple. He was redshirted year one and suffered an injury forcing him to miss the 2017 season as well.

DE Jake Burton flipped to UCLA late in the process and has since switched to the offensive line and saw action in five games last season.

DT Jabari Watson was another recruit who was asked to gray shirt and ended up Boise State. He redshirted in 2016 and recorded four tackles in 2017.

DT Markell Utsey flipped to Missouri late in the process. He suffered a season ending injury as a freshman but appeared in 11 games in 2017 and started six. In line to start again in 2018.

LB Kapri Doucet flipped to Oklahoma but requested to transfer after not seeing much action and is now at Hampton University.

S/LB London Iakopo flipped to Louisville and ended up tearing his ACL early in the season in 2016. Played in 11 games and started on in 2017, tallied 12 tackles. Four-star true freshman Robert Hicks is projected to start over him middle linebacker

DE Josh Allen has a wild story. A top junior college prospect who committed to Arizona and planned to enroll in December. Decommitted and reportedly started receiving offers left and right from Alabama, LSU, Texas, and so on and would sign on National Signing Day instead. Apparently those offers were made up, and it was down to Arizona and Washington State. He signed with Arizona, but did not qualify. Ended up committed and signing with USF in March of 2017 but did not make it to campus. He somehow ended up at Syracuse but did not medically qualify due to a cardiac condition and will seek to transfer elsewhere.

2017 Class

OG Maisen Knight came via Ventura College transfer and it was announced that he would be returning back to VC this season.

TE Bryce Gilbert was no longer listed on the roster upon completion of the 2017 season. It appears he is still a student at Arizona.

OLB Jose Ramirez just recently announced his decision to transfer and has not yet announced his future school.

CB Tony Wallace was just recently removed from the team for what appears to be academic issues.

CB Greg Johnson flipped USC after Donte’ Williams left Nebraska. He suffered a shoulder injury after playing in four games and missed the remainder of the season. He looks to crack the rotation this season.

QB Braxton Burmeister was persuaded to Oregon after Willie Taggart came in. Played in a few games when Justin Herbert went down but did not look great, going 1-4 as a starter.

DT Austin Faoliu received an Oregon offer and flipped. He started two games and appeared in 12. He played in 315 snaps, which is tied for 8th most among FBS freshman defensive linemen.

WR Darrian McNeal had a previous relationship with Willie Taggart at USF, but felt it was too close to home. Once at Oregon, Taggart offered and McNeal followed. McNeal decided to transfer after one season and is looking for another school.

OG Cody Shear received an offer from his hometown Oregon Ducks the night before National Signing Day and flipped. He is a reserve guard for the time being.

DE/OLB Bryce Brand ended up following his walk-on quarterback brother to Maryland. Appeared in 10 games for the Terps but seems to be buried in depth at the “buck” position.

WR Warren Jackson flipped to Colorado State. He appeared in all 13 games recording 15 catches for 265 yards.

DT Elijah Watson ran into some trouble at IMG Academy and had his offer pulled. He ended up at Miami (Ohio). He played in six games last season and recorded four tackles.

LB Del’Shawn Phillips had a late change of heart and flipped to Illinois to play under Lovie Smith. He played in 11 games with 10 starts, leading Illinois in tackles (86) and was ranked eighth in the Big 10 in tackles per game.

DE Matt Leo was committed to Arizona but had his offer reportedly pulled and ended up at Iowa State. He played in three games before receiving a medical redshirt.

2018 Class

CB Jhevon Hill and DE Adam Plant both opted to attend Arizona Western College. It is rumored to be tied to academics.

S Haki Woods committed to Arizona but flipped to Oregon not long after receiving his offer.
