ASU projected to host Arizona in Super Regionals
This would be fun
The Arizona softball team probably won’t host Super Regionals this postseason, but they might not have to travel very far for them.
College Sports Madness’ final projections before Selection Sunday peg Arizona as the No. 10 overall seed and Arizona State as the No. 7 seed, meaning the in-state rivals would face off in Tempe in Super Regionals, barring any first-round upsets.
While ASU (43-11, 16-8 Pac-12) finished with a better record than Arizona (40-14, 13-11), it wouldn’t be a bad draw for the Wildcats — and not just because Tempe is only a couple hours away.
The Wildcats won two of three at ASU in April, and played a non-conference tournament at Farrington Stadium earlier in the year, so they are highly familiar with that venue.
That sure beats the alternative, considering Arizona could get shipped to Tennessee, Georgia, or Florida State for Super Regionals instead.
But we’ll find out Sunday which route the Wildcats get. The selection show is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST on ESPN2.
The Wildcats (and Sun Devils) are expected to host Regionals in the first weekend of the tournament.
Arizona has made the NCAA Tournament 31 years in a row, which is the longest active streak in the sport.
The UA has won 11 of its last 12 heading into the postseason, though it fell to Stanford in its regular-season finale.
