Arizona in contact with Maine grad transfer Aaron Calixte

The Wildcats need a point guard and Calixte could fill that void

The Arizona Wildcats are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Maine graduate transfer Aaron Calixte, per Evan Daniels of 247Sports.

The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 16.9 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds with the Black Bears this past season.

Calixte is an incredible shooter, posting a line of .476/.386/.899 as a junior. But he did commit more turnovers (121) than assists (102), plus rated poorly on defense, posting a -2.7 defensive box plus/minus which was second to last on a Maine team that went 6-26.

Yet, Arizona’s interest in the Stoughton, Mass. native makes sense. The Wildcats are set to lose starting point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright to graduation, have zero 2018 commits, and only return sparsely-used freshman Alex Barcello at the position.

So they desperately need to add point guard or two this season, and Calixte could very well start for the Wildcats from day one, as he is eligible to play immediately.

Calixte has also garnered interest from Oklahoma, Missouri, St. Bonaventure, Ole Miss, DePaul, GCU, and La Salle, per Daniels.

Calixte missed the majority of the 2016-17 season with a foot injury, which allowed him to retain a year of eligibility.

Arizona has also been connected to Evansville graduate transfer Ryan Taylor, who averaged 21.2 points per game this past season.
