Jamarye Joiner shuts down recruitment, is now ‘110 percent’ committed to Arizona

This probably has to do with the Kevin Sumlin hiring

The hiring of Kevin Sumlin continues to bring good things to the Arizona Wildcats.

Prized quarterback commit Jamarye Joiner announced Tuesday that he has shut down his recruitment and is now “110 percent committed to Arizona.”

For a while there, it looked like the Tucson native was going to head elsewhere for college, or was at least strongly considering it.

Joiner did not sign back with Arizona during in the early-signing period in December, and has picked up big-time offers from Nebraska and UCF.

He was scheduled to take an official visit to Alabama in January, too.

But evidently Arizona’s hiring of Sumlin sealed the deal for Joiner, who can officially sign with the school on National Signing Day, which is Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Sumlin is known for his recruiting chops and this is the second move Arizona has made since he was hired.

The other was reportedly landing wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr., a former four-star recruit from Nebraska.

Joiner, a three-star prospect, is the No. 19 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Joiner had a monster year at Cienega in 2017, completing 57 percent of his passes for 2,196, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Arizona signed 16 players in the early-signing period, and Sumlin said Tuesday at his introductory press conference that the Wildcats are looking to add five to six more.

Sumlin also said Arizona’s offense will be more aggressive under his direction than it was under Rich Rodriguez’s, which is probably exciting news for a quarterback like Joiner.

Not to mention that Joiner is in prime position to be Khalil Tate’s heir apparent.
