Arizona’s Cate Reese to play in McDonald’s All-American Game

First UA women’s recruit to do so

Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball signee Cate Reese will play in the 2018 girls McDonald’s All-American Game, it was announced Tuesday.

The 6-3 forward becomes the first McDonald’s All-American the UA women’s program has ever signed.

Reese is a five-star recruit ranked No. 14 in her class by ESPN. The Cypress, Texas native is also the highest ranked prospect Arizona women’s basketball has ever signed.

Reese was recently named to the 2018 Naismith High School Girls’ Midseason Team, too.

She is averaging 29.8 points, 14.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for Cypress Woods High School. Reese has three 40-point games this season and recently eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career.

“Cate Reese is just a fierce competitor,” Arizona coach Adia Barnes said after National Signing Day. “She brings it every night. She’s diving for balls, she’s sprinting the floor every time. She doesn’t back down from anybody. She’s not afraid of anybody. That was that competitive chip that I want. … She can shoot the 15-footer, we’re going to develop her 3 more, but she can step out and shoot the 3.”

Reese is one of five recruits Arizona has signed in its 2018 class, which ranks No. 5 in the country, according to ProspectsNation.com.

The girls’ McDonald’s All-American Game will tip at 5 p.m. March 28 on ESPN2.

The boys’ game will tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN. No future Wildcats will be participating in that.
