Arizona QB commit Jamarye Joiner offered by UCF

The self-proclaimed national champions are trying to snatch Arizona’s prized recruit

The Arizona Wildcats are trying to hang on to prized quarterback commit Jamarye Joiner, but now they have more competition for him.

The self-proclaimed national champion UCF Knights offered the Cienega quarterback Wednesday, Joiner announced on Twitter.

It is Joiner’s fourth FBS offer. The Tucson native also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, and Nebraska. The 2018 prospect is expecting a fifth offer from Alabama in February.

Joiner will be busy in the next month, officially visiting Arizona on Jan. 12, Nebraska on Jan. 19, Baylor on Jan. 26, and Alabama on Feb. 2.

Joiner chose not to sign his National Letter of Intent with Arizona in December which now looks like a wise decision since he is not only collecting more offers, but also because the Wildcats do not currently have a head coach.

What Joiner is mainly looking for is the ability to play quarterback in college. Arizona is a good fit for him in that regard because Khalil Tate is the only other high-caliber QB the UA has, and he will be a junior in 2018, meaning it shouldn’t take long for Joiner to ascend to the top of the depth chart.

But playing for big-time programs like Nebraska and Alabama has to be appealing, too, so it would not be surprising to see him leave his hometown, either.

Joiner, a three-star prospect, is the No. 19 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Joiner had a monster year at Cienega in 2017, completing 57 percent of his passes for 2,196, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

He also ran for 1,399 yards, averaging 8.5 yards per carry.

If Arizona does not land Joiner, it could be in some serious trouble at the quarterback position in the future.

Brandon Dawkins will be a redshirt senior (and is a grad transfer candidate) in 2018, and the only other scholarship quarterbacks currently on the roster aside from Tate are Rhett Rodriguez and K’Hari Lane, neither of whom are highly-touted — plus Rhett’s future at Arizona is iffy at best since Rich Rodriguez, his father, was recently fired by the school.

So the Wildcats have to hope Joiner decides to stay in Tucson.
