Shareef O’Neal linked to Kentucky, could visit for Big Blue Madness

A few experts believe the Arizona commit will flip to Kentucky

The Arizona Wildcats’ 2018 recruiting class has not experienced any decommitments since the school was implicated in a major FBI investigation for improper activity on the recruiting trail, but one could be coming soon.

Andy Slater of 247Sports, apparently the top-ranked predictor in the Crystal Ball, recently projected that UA commit Shareef O’Neal will flip to the Kentucky Wildcats, and could visit Lexington next weekend for Big Blue Madness.

Here’s what Slater said (via 247Sports.com):

"There are rumors that [O'Neal] is likely to decommit from Arizona, given the events of last week. He's likely to visit Kentucky on the 13th with his AAU teammate and friend Bol Bol. O'Neal's father is reportedly a big fan of coach [John] Calipari."

Two other experts, Adam Rowe of The Devils Den and Chris Smith of CommodoresDaily.com, also predict O’Neal will flip to Kentucky.

Ricky O’Donnell of SB Nation wrote that “it would now feel like an upset if Shaq’s son actually ends up playing for (Sean) Miller.”

While UA’s 2018 class is intact (for now), Arizona’s recruiting has already taken a substantial hit since the FBI’s investigation went public.

No. 9 prospect Nassir Little and No. 1 prospect R.J. Barrett dropped the UA from consideration, while No. 8 prospect Simi Shittu canceled his official visit to Arizona.

O’Neal was scheduled to take his official visit to Arizona on Oct. 20 for the Red-Blue game, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.

A four-star prospect, O’Neal is the No. 33 player in his class. The 6-foot-9 forward committed to Arizona on April 19 after unofficially visiting on Nov. 18 of 2016.
