Arizona football recruiting: 3-star OT David Watson verbally commits to Wildcats

The Wildcats land their second commitment of the 2018 cycle

The Arizona Wildcats got a lot better up front this weekend.

On Saturday, 3-star Tucson-Amphitheater High School offensive tackle David Watson committed to the Wildcats. Watson became the second commitment of the 2018 recruiting cycle and it is an important one.

Why is this important? Well, Arizona only brought in Las Vegas-Desert Pines offensive lineman Edgar Burrola during the 2017 cycle.

Watson is also a legacy recruit. His father, David Sr. (pictured above), played offensive guard for the Wildcats in the ‘90s. His mother, Laura Espinoza, played softball at Arizona. She was a three-time All-American.

"He definitely has the genes," Amphi football coach Jorge Mendivil told AZCentral’s Richard Obert.

Checking in at 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, Watson is a large human being. Needless to say he is adding some much-needed size along the line.

"He's the kind of kid if you tell him that someone will match up well against him, he'll go out there and try to prove you wrong," Mendivil said. "He loves the competition."

I like what Watson brings to the Wildcats. He is quite fast for a human his size. He is extremely powerful and has a tenacity to his game. He has a knack for punching holes in the defense, allowing his running back to gain chunks of yards. He is still a little raw but has a large amount of upside.

Some of his game clips can be found here.
