Arizona baseball: JC Cloney removed from WSU start after facing just one batter

This is potentially very bad news for the Wildcats

After facing just one batter on Friday night, Arizona Wildcats ace JC Cloney was taken out of his start against the Washington State Cougars after suffering some sort of injury.

Cloney induced a groundout, and was then taken out out of the game, being replaced by Alfonso Rivas. The type of injury is not immediately known, nor the extent, but this is obviously not a good sign.

As more info becomes available, we will pass that along.

So far this year, Cloney has been Arizona’s best and most consistent pitcher. He entered this weekend’s play with the nation’s best record (6-0) while posting a team-best ERA of 1.75. He also leads the team in opposing batting average, allowing batters he faces to hit just .195 this year. In 46 23 innings this year, Cloney has allowed 33 hits and nine walks, resulting in nine earned runs.
