Arizona baseball: JC Cloney’s status very positive for Wildcats

Still not sure when he’ll pitch though

When the Arizona Wildcats traveled to Phoenix to take on the Grand Canyon Antelopes on Tuesday night, one person that did not make the trip was senior LHP JC Cloney.

Cloney suffered what has been termed as biceps discomfort in his start on Friday night at Washington State, throwing just two pitches in that game.

But that wasn’t the reason he didn’t travel to Phoenix.

“Honestly, homework,” head coach Jay Johnson said flatly.

The ace of Arizona’s staff is not a sure thing for Thursday’s opener against the Oregon Ducks though.

“Very positive,” Johnson said when updating Cloney’s status. “We’re not going to pitch him until he’s ready, but it’s looking way more on the positive side than not on the positive side.”

“He got his workout in earlier today before we left and a lot to feel good about.”

Arizona and Oregon square off at 7 PM PT on Thursday night at Hi Corbett. It remains to be seen if Cloney is part of that.
