Arizona football recruiting SitRep: Wildcats doing well with multiple targets

The Wildcats hosted some visitors this week and are in great shape with multiple prospects

This week saw the Arizona Wildcats coming back from Spring Break. That meant getting back to work finishing out spring ball and hitting the recruiting trail. Let’s not forget the 13 or so players who participated in Pro Day on Friday, where Paul Magloire and Trey Griffey showed out.

So let’s dive into this week’s Weekly SitRep.

Jalen Nailor

The 3-star Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas, NV) receiver took a visit to Tucson a few weeks ago with a group of other Las Vegas-area players. He really enjoyed his time out in the Old Pueblo, so much so that he’s looking to visit again in the next couple of weeks. He is deciding whether he wants to visit during the open spring practice on March 31st or if he wants to come to Arizona’s Junior Day. I wouldn’t be surprised if he visited for both.

When he started his visit he did not have an offer from the Wildcats. When he left, he did. While he was talking to one of the Wildcat coaches with his parents, Rich Rodriguez walked up to them to inform them that Arizona had offered Nailor.

Nailor is looking at an end of summer commitment and Arizona is in really good shape for the Vegas speedster. Wisconsin and Fresno State are U of A’s biggest competition right now and Nailor is looking to visit both later this summer.

2018 Recruiting Update

With the spring season starting it’s prime time for schools to start making their mark on recruits through communication and unofficial visits. The Wildcats have done a great job with quite a few recruits so far for this upcoming class.

Jalen Nailor, WR, Bishop Gorman HS (Las Vegas, NV)

Reference the above section.

Jaden Mitchell, WR, Desert Pines HS (Las Vegas, NV)

The explosive, speedy standout received an offer from Rich Rod himself and visited with Nailor and the rest of the Vegas-area group. He really likes Arizona and wants to spend more time there in the upcoming months.

Malone Mataele, ATH, Santa Margarita Catholic HS (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA)

Mataele has a great relationship with Scott Boone who is his lead recruiter. He has recently told Scout.com that the Wildcats are among four schools that stand out to him so far. He wants to visit Arizona and no doubt that getting him on campus will go a long way in his recruitment.

Kenny Churchwell, S, Mountain Pointe HS (Phoenix, AZ)

Churchwell has high interest in Arizona and the Wildcats have done a great job so far in his recruitment. He has already been on campus a few times and took in a game or two last season. It wouldn’t hurt to get him back on campus, but as of right now, Arizona is where it wants to be with him.

Jamarye Joiner, DT-QB, Cienega HS (Vail, AZ)

The only commit so far in Arizona’s 2018 class, Joiner is still solid with the Wildcats. He has shown nothing but support for the Wildcats and I believe it’ll be difficult for other schools to pull him away. He has been to campus on multiple occasions including the overtime thriller against Washington (saw him and his family as I was leaving the stadium) last season. He has a strong relationship with his lead recruiter Rod Smith.

J.R. Justice, WR, St. Augustine HS (San Diego, CA)

The son of former MLB star David Justice, J.R. received his offer from the Wildcats this past week. Even with the small amount of time that he’s held an offer, the staff has kept in communication with him and there is interest from both parties. This is another recruitment that Rod Smith has a major hand in and it has led to Arizona being in good position heading into spring and summer. The next step here would be getting Justice on campus for an unofficial visit.

Kazmeir Allen, ATH, Tulare Union HS (Tulare, CA)

Allen is another prospect that received an offer from Rich Rod himself. Allen is a little small but that doesn’t mean he can’t play. He does have high interest in the Wildcats and likes what the coaching staff has to offer him. He does plan on visiting Arizona in the next couple of months and a visit will definitely put the Wildcats in a better position than they already are.

Re-al Mitchell, DT-QB, St. John Bosco HS (Bellflower, CA)

There was a lot of Arizona buzz surrounding Mitchell early in his recruitment but right now the buzz is about Iowa State. He released an in-order Top Eight of Iowa State, South Carolina, UConn, Rutgers, UCF, UNLV, Arizona, and Air Force. He will be committing on May 1st and as of right now this feels like an uphill battle for the Wildcats.

Visitors

Early this past week, the Wildcats hosted the Southern California-based Players of the Future 7-v-7 team. While on campus, the Wildcats handed out offers to WR Dylan Thomas (Santa Fe HS, Santa Fe Springs, CA), ILB Issaiah Johnson (Los Alamitos HS, Los Alamitos, CA), and DB/ATH Tyric LeBeauf (Long Beach Poly, Long Beach, CA). It’ll be interesting to see what happens, but right now the ‘Cats are in good shape with these three.
