Arizona football: Wildcats announce future series with Colorado State

The Arizona Wildcats have made the latest move in the weird world of non-conference football scheduling.

In 2027 and 2028 (yes, a decade from now), Arizona will engage in a home-and-home series with the Colorado State Rams.

“We are excited to announce this series with Colorado State University,” athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement. “The two schools have a strong history between one another and renewing this regional matchup will be of great benefit to both programs. We think our fans will enjoy games like this, along with the other strong programs on our future non-conference schedules.”

That strong history is a 13-3-1 all-time advantage Arizona holds over Colorado State, with the last meeting coming in 1994. The Rams actually won that last meeting, coming into Tucson as a ranked team and taking a 21-16 decision over a Wildcat team that had won ten games the prior season.

Arizona will make the initial road trip in this new series, traveling to Fort Collins on September 4th, 2027. UA is actually 3-0 all-time in Fort Collins. CSU will visit Tucson on September 2nd, 2028.

Colorado State is opening a new, on-campus stadium this season, so it’s obviously important for them to schedule Power Five games in Fort Collins.

"We will continue to challenge ourselves by taking a very aggressive approach to scheduling our future opponents," said CSU head coach Mike Bobo. "It's not only important that we schedule these programs, but it's important that we also get them here in Fort Collins. Playing football on campus is going to be a special experience for our fans and the teams."

"Our attention to Power 5 home-and-home arrangements is important for us and for our fans as we leverage the engagement asset that the new on-campus stadium provides," CSU Director of Athletics Joe Parker added. "The fact that we are finding schools in that cohort group who are willing to commit to home-and-home series is another strong example of the benefits we are already seeing from the on-campus stadium. Power 5 opponents in Fort Collins make the on-campus gameday experience that much more impactful."

The Wildcats now have two non-conference opponents set for both the ‘27 and ‘28 seasons. BYU is the other team set for 2027, and a trip to Nebraska is scheduled for 2028.

Some players that will be playing in this new series are currently in second grade, so be sure to get out there and scout some of those kids.
