Three-star defensive tackle Austin Faoliu decommits from Arizona

The Wildcats are losing a big piece at a position of need

The 2017 recruiting class for the Arizona Wildcats takes another blow after three-star defensive tackle Austin Faoliu announced he was decommitting from the program on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.

Arizona picked up a commitment from him in September just a few days after being offered. Things were fine with the Mater Dei product up until he received an offer from Washington State, a school that he had interest in after his teammate Fa’avae Fa’avae committed. Arizona State also seemed to be a school of high interest.

Things started heating up for Faoliu during the dead period, where he received offers from Baylor, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, and Texas. While Washington State and Arizona State had been seen as true threats to pulling Faoliu away, these latest offers certainly made it hard to believe that Faoliu was going to sign with the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle is scheduled to visit Oklahoma on January 13th. He will announce his new college decision at the Polynesian Bowl, which is on January 21st.

Arizona now only has two defensive lineman in the 2017 class. They are early enrollee and junior college transfer Sione Taufahema, and three-star Kurtis Brown, who will be on his official visit this weekend.
