Sonoran Hot Reads: DeAndre Ayton has visa snafu in the Bahamas
And there are still continued questions about whether or not he’ll actually make it to campus
Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildcats made a big splash when they inked 2017’s consensus top recruit, DeAndre Ayton. There were questions immediately whether or not he would qualify a la Terrance Ferguson, so any negative publicity is going to standout, and Ayton got a bit this weekend. 247’s Jerry Meyer reported that Ayton was not with Hillcrest Prep at Hoopfest because he was stuck in the Bahamas due to a visa issue. Meyer later responded to a question about Ayton saying he has serious doubts the prospect will end up at Arizona. On Sunday, the visa issue was apparently taken care of. As the world turns in Tucson right now I guess
- Saturday’s game made it abundantly clear that Arizona just doesn’t have enough players right now to compete at a high level. Rawle Alkins is starting to come into his own though
- Despite this lack of players, Sean Miller isn’t ready to try and take a football player, say...Cam Denson?

Football
- Now that Donte Williams has left for Nebraska, we’re already starting to see the recruiting fallout as top recruit Greg Johnson has reopened his recruitment and apparently Rhedi Short is having second thoughts
- It’s all gonna be okay though because Arizona offered a kicker that once made an 80-yarder
- If you think all is clean and good in college football, you should probably read this. The Terry Bowden story is so good
- The Arizona Bowl will actually have two teams from different conferences this year. It’ll be Air Force and South Alabama in Tucson, and apparently only the USA Jaguars will be motivated to play in this game
Baseball
- Mark Melancon is gonna get paid, and it’s probably gonna happen soon, with the Giants and Nationals as the two most likely destinations right now

Other sports
- Volleyball is heading to its eighth-ever Sweet 16 after upsetting Michigan State in East Lansing on Saturday
- Hockey split their two-game series with No. 3 ASU this weekend. Just to be clear, it was not ASU’s NCAA D-1 team like some seemed to think it was on Twitter. That team had the chance to complete a weekend sweep of Colgate up in Tempe
- Women’s basketball needed OT to beat New Mexico State
- Men’s and women’s swimming earned plenty of NCAA cuts at this weekend’s Texas Invitational
Tucson news
- A burning body was discovered near 36th and Country Club. He was identified as Omar Fox
- A car crashed and somehow ended up on the top of a house
- In Bisbee, an inmate escaped from a work crew, but he has been found
