Arizona football recruiting: 4-star athlete Greg Johnson decommits from Arizona Wildcats

Arizona’s highest ranked prospect is no longer committed

Just one day after it was reported that Donté Williams has accepted a position to join the Nebraska Cornhuskers staff, the Arizona Wildcats’ top-ranked 2017 recruit, Greg Johnson, announced his decommitment via Twitter:

Johnson is a consensus four-star prospect, and ranked as the No. 1 athlete in the nation, according to 247Sports. He was projected to come in as a cornerback under Williams.

This does not come as much of a surprise given the departure of Williams, as Johnson’s relationship with the cornerback coach was the primary reason why he committed to Arizona in the first place.

It seems likely that Johnson would flip to Nebraska and bring his five-star teammate Joseph Lewis with him as well.

Arizona’s recruiting class now has 25 commitments, still holding two four-star commitments, both of which are on offense. Johnson served as an ambassador to this class, actively recruiting many of the commits to join him in Tucson.

With Johnson no longer a member of the class, we could see a few more commits slip through the cracks.
