Arizona football: Nick Wilson likely to miss several weeks with a “new” injury

Unfortunately, this isn’t surprising

Arizona Wildcats running back Nick Wilson has suffered a “new” injury that will likely sideline him for several weeks, head coach Rich Rodriguez announced after practice on Wednesday (via Anthony Gimino).

Unfortunately, injuries have become the norm for Wilson, who has left early or missed the game in 13 of Arizona’s last 15 games.

This season, Wilson has tied his career-high in yards per carry (5.8), but has missed two games and has left early in two others with various injuries. In the two games he played from start to finish (vs. Grambling State, vs. Hawaii), Wilson ran for over 100 yards in each one and the Wildcats came away with the victory.

But as talented and productive as the junior running back is, he just hasn’t been able to stay on the field the past two seasons.

This year, Wilson’s absence has especially hurt Arizona given the lack of depth at the position after the season-ending injury to J.J. Taylor and the dismissal of Orlando Bradford.

And it sounds as though we may not see Wilson very much — if all — for the rest of the season.

In the meantime, the Wildcats will have to make do with Zach Green and Tyrell Johnson at running back.

Green has rushed for 164 yards on 43 attempts (3.8 YPC), while Johnson has rushed for 145 yards on 28 carries (5.2 YPC).

Arizona (2-5, 0-4 Pac-12) returns to action Oct. 29 when it hosts the Stanford Cardinal (4-2, 2-2 Pac-12) following its bye week.
