Arizona football injury report: Nick Wilson probable, Brandon Dawkins questionable vs. USC

Wilson’s health is improving and that’s huge for Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats aren’t healthy, but they’re getting healthier.

The injury report for Saturday’s game versus USC has been released, and while there are still quite a few names on it, it’s nothing compared to last week’s.

Here is the full report:

Probable: DL Luca Bruno (ankle), FB Jamardre Cobb (knee), WR Shawn Poindexter (foot), OL Freddie Tagaloa (knee), RB Nick Wilson (ankle)

Questionable: QB Brandon Dawkins (concussion), DL Parker Zellers (knee)

Doubtful: QB Anu Solomon (knee)

Out: DB Isaiah Hayes (concussion), LB Cody Ippolito (knee, season-ending)

The big news is starting running back Nick Wilson is on track to play, adding a much-needed workhorse to a depleted Arizona backfield.

UA head coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday that Wilson was close to playing last week at Utah, but didn’t feel well enough after a pre-game warmup. But apparently his condition has improved since then.

Also of note is that quarterback Brandon Dawkins has been diagnosed with a concussion and is questionable for Saturday. Dawkins, already dealing with a rib injury, left the game versus Utah after suffering a “ding” to the head.

If he cannot play, freshman Khalil Tate will make his first career start against the team from his hometown, given that Anu Solomon continues to be sidelined with a knee injury.

Wide receiver Shawn Poindexter will likely be good to go for Saturday as well. Poindexter has been out since Arizona’s loss to Washington in Week 4.

Meanwhile, Arizona’s defensive line could be getting some reinforcements this weekend as Luca Bruno, who sat out against Utah last week, will likely return to the lineup.

Plus, Parker Zellers, who’s missed the last few games, could suit up as he’s listed as questionable.

Unsurprisingly, Cody Ippolito will not play due to a season-ending knee injury while freshman defensive back Isaiah Hayes will be sidelined with a concussion.

Arizona, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, kicks off against USC Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium and the game will televised on Fox Sports 1.

The Wildcats currently have a 2-4 record and are winless in three Pac-12 Conference games.
