2017 four-star guard Brandon Randolph commits to the Arizona Wildcats

The 6-foot-6 sharpshooter is the third commitment in the Wildcats’ 2017 class

After visiting Tucson this past weekend, four-star sharpshooter Brandon Randolph has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, becoming Sean Miller’s third commit of the 2017 class.

The New York native — currently attending Westtown School in Pennsylvania — joins point guard Alex Barcello, and DeAndre Ayton, forming an already excellent recruiting class that should see more additions by the time it’s all said and done.

He told Scout’s Evan Daniels, “After taking all my visits and obviously they were my last visit, I just had a good feeling going into it. It was a great atmosphere there with great academics and I guess it was just the best fit. It had everything we were looking for.”

Ranked 38th overall in his class, Randolph is considered the seventh-best shooting guard in the nation. While he may not be able to move up to the five-star level (there’s only 25 of them on 247Sports), a productive senior season could see him rise into the top 30.

Randolph’s shooting ability will pair nicely with the passing ability of Barcello and the attention Ayton will be given in the post. Additionally, his four other teammates will see less help defense Randolph’s man will be forced to stay on him instead of sagging off.

During the most recent Nike EYBL season, the 6-foot-6, 180-pound recruit shot 40 percent from behind the arc while averaging 16.5 points per game in 15 games played. Overall he shot 48 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line. His shooting ability will give the Wildcats a dimension on the floor they will lack this upcoming season, helping make the team even more formidable than they would be otherwise.

On the defensive end, Randolph brings another long body that Miller has been investing in lately. This clogs passing lanes and allows the defense to switch with ease, complicating opposing team’s offensive strategy.

In preparation for playing in the Pac-12, Randolph will need to focus on getting stronger, keeping a tighter dribble, and smoothing out his midrange game.

While Wake Forest was seen as the favorite early on, Miller made up a lot of ground was able to work his usual magic after getting the shooter on campus.
