Arizona football injury report: Brandon Dawkins and Nick Wilson listed as questionable for Wildcats vs. Utah

It’s a long list of names for the Wildcats

When the Arizona Wildcats (2-3, 0-2 Pac-12 Conference) take on the No. 24 Utah Utes (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12 Conference) in Salt Lake City this Saturday, it’s safe to say Arizona will not be close to full-strength.

The weekly injury report has been released and there are several key names on it. Take a look:

Probable: OL Jacob Alsadek (shoulder), Gerhard de Beer (ankle), DeAndre’ Miller (ankle)

Questionable: QB Brandon Dawkins (ribs), Freddie Tagaloa (knee), RB Nick Wilson (ankle)

Doubtful: QB Anu Solomon

Out: DL Luca Bruno (ankle), DL Parker Zellers (knee), WR Shawn Poindexter (foot), FB Jamardre Cobb (knee)

Of course, the main topic of conversation since Saturday has been the quarterback situation. Anu Solomon will most definitely be out versus Utah, while Brandon Dawkins is listed as questionable.

Being listed as ‘questionable’ more times than not means a player will be out under Rich Rodriguez, but there’s at least a chance Dawkins will suit up. If he doesn’t though, that likely means 17-year-old freshman quarterback Khalil Tate will be in line to make his first career start.

Tate came in during the second half of last week’s contest versus UCLA and was a “pleasant surprise”, throwing for 72 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 79 yards.

The offensive line should be relatively healthy, at least, as it appears Gerhard de Beer and Jacob Alsadek will play, though Freddie Tagaloa — who missed last week’s contest — could be out again.

It also seems unlikely that Nick Wilson starts at running back, but he also hasn’t been ruled out either.

Defensively, the Wildcats will be without two key defensive linemen in Parker Zellers and Luca Bruno, but DeAndre’ Miller — a key part of the team’s pass rush — will likely play.

Nonetheless, the Wildcats will obviously be short-handed at Utah, and they’re going to need some unlikely heroes to step if they’re going to beat Utah for the fifth straight time.

Kickoff at Rice-Eccles Stadium is set for 7 p.m. PT and it will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
