Sonoran Hot Reads: Ray Smith wins Arizona’s Lip Sync Battle

Down goes Medel

Sonoran Hot Reads has become more like Sonoran Hot Watches recently, but here’s another one. Noted lip syncer and RHP Robby Medel is apparently challenging all of Arizona Athletics to Lip Sync Battles as the fad returns to the mainstream (I thought it was the best when Ted, Janitor and Turk were doing it on Scrubs). Medel’s first opponent was basketball player Ray Smith, and Smith dominated, busting out Roses by Outkast and Don’t Stop Believin’ while Medel went with Mr. Brightside and Gangster’s Paradise.

Robby told me the other day that there are a lot more of these to come, hopefully with a live crowd in the videos as well to make them more lively

- Arizona is one of several schools visiting Quentin Grimes this week. Grimes is the composite 32nd-best player in the 2018 class

Football

- The biggest news of the season hit Wednesday afternoon as Orlando Bradford was arrested on seven felony counts (three domestic violence kidnapping, four domestic violence aggravated assault). Bradford had his bond set at $20,000 after appearing in night court

- The Wildcats aren’t the only Pac-12 team facing some serious issues on and off the field. Washington State Athletic Director Bill Moss addressed what’s going on with his football program

- Anu Solomon’s status is technically up in the air, but I’d be surprised if he plays Saturday

- Speaking of Saturday, Arizona will be wearing these amazing uniforms

- Your Pac-12 Power Rankings have a new team on top

Baseball

- Orem threw a one-hitter in the playoffs against Billings. Zach Gibbons had two hits of his own in the game

Other sports

- Soccer hosts Oklahoma on Friday night

- A couple of Wildcat swimmers were named to CollegeSwimming.com’s Preseason All-American team

Tucson news

- U of A’s mental health program earned some national recognition

- A new 28-mile portion of El Tour de Tucson is coming to Marana this year

- There’s a new bridge that will connect Sunset to Silverbell, replacing one that was washed away 33 years ago

- The parking fees at U of A are ridiculous
