Arizona vs. BYU: Zach Hemmila named one of Wildcats’ captains for season opener

Just a great idea

The Arizona Wildcats had already announced that they would pay tribute to the late Zach Hemmila with helmet stickers and hat patches, but this gesture is well above that.

Arizona announced their captains for the opener against the BYU Cougars, and Hemmila is one of the four seniors that have been chosen.

Hemmila passed away at the age of 22 while sleeping the night of August 7th/morning of August 8th. He was projected to be the team’s starting center in his fifth collegiate season out of Chandler (AZ) HS.

The cause of his death is still unknown.

U of A also received handwritten condolence letters from the Texas Longhorns and a signed card from the San Francisco 49ers last week as the entire football world mourned the loss of Hemmila.

The Wildcats and Cougars are set to kick off at 7:30 PM PT on Fox Sports 1 Saturday night as Arizona looks to succeed on the field while still hurting off of it.
