Arizona football recruiting: 2018 3-star OT Jacob Isaia beginning his recruitment with Wildcats

A prospect to keep your eye on for 2018

The Arizona Wildcats had some glaring weaknesses on the offensive line in their 2016 season debut. Over the years, Arizona has landed some nice pieces on the recruiting trail at offensive line.

There are plenty of young guys in the works including Michael Eletise, Bryson Cain, Harper Sherman, Cody Creason, Alex Kosinski and Nathan Eldridge -- all either freshmen or redshirt freshmen.

In this 2017 recruiting class, Arizona is bringing in 3-stars Edgar Burrola and Cody Shear. For the 2018 class, there are plenty of options including 3-star OT Jacob Isaia.

The 6-foot-3, 260 pound high school junior is featured at right tackle for Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV), home of 2017 Arizona commit Malik Hausman and current quarterback Anu Solomon.

Isaia is ranked 36th in the nation among all guards and 7th overall in the state of Nevada. He only holds one offer — to BYU — but has received attention from Michigan, Michigan State, TCU, UCLA and USC, among others. It’s important to note that he is a Michigan State legacy recruit as well, having strong ties to the school.

He’s also received some attention from Arizona, and has some ties to one of the Wildcats’ most coveted offensive lineman from the 2016 class, Michael Eletise. The two used to train together before Isaia transferred from his home state of Hawaii to Bishop Gorman.

"Not much right now," Isaia said about his communication with the Arizona staff. "But my boy Michael Eletise is there. We used to train together. Now we’re both too busy, but we DM once in a while."

Although Isaia’s communication with the staff has just started, he’s a fan of what the school has to offer.

"Arizona is on the rise, great coach, new facilities, pretty good weather too," he explained.

Often coaches want to see film on a kid before they offer. Having moved to Bishop Gorman, Isaia’s had a lot of exposure as the starting offensive tackle. Now it’s just waiting for his film to do the talking.

"I think a few are close," he said when asked about schools offering him. "Mainly Big Ten and Pac-12 for now."

"I've made visits to UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State, Utah, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State," Isaia continued. "Been talking with Nebraska. Colorado is sending me tons of stuff."

Isaia plans to visit The University of Arizona this spring and see his pal Michael Eletise.

Still a long ways out from his commitment, Isaia knows exactly what he is looking for when it comes to his future school.

"Education is most important," he explained. "After that it’s coaches, facilities, teammates, location and few others about equal. I've been impressed with all the schools I visited so far; looking forward to visiting more in the spring."
