Arizona football recruiting: Donte’ Williams’ reputation from SJSU carrying over to Tucson

3-star SJSU QB commit Kaymen Cureton talks about Donte’ Williams at San Jose State and his interest in Arizona

We’ve learned what Donte’ Williams can do on the recruiting trail during his short time with the Arizona Wildcats thus far. He’s been the lead recruiter for a handful of commits, including Rhedi Short, Malik Hausman, Xavier Bell, Rhedi Short, Joshua Brown, Greg Johnson, Lorenzo Burns and Chacho Ulloa.

Kaymen Cureton is a 6-foot-2, 3-star dual-threat quarterback out of Lawndale, California. A San Jose State University commit, he was able to tell me more about his relationship with Donte’ Williams and what makes him such a great recruiter. I also learned a bit about his interest in Arizona.

"I was able to build a relationship with Coach Donte’ Williams while he was at San Jose State University," Cureton said about his communication with Arizona’s corner coach. "He is one of the reasons I committed there. He's a stand up guy, you won't find a more real recruiter than him. That's my guy."

Many recruits tell me that they have nothing but great things to say about Coach Williams. They love how he’s straight up and keeps it real when he talks to them.

And for those recruits who haven’t developed a relationship with Donte’, his reputation precedes him, with those recruits saying they’ve heard nothing but great things about him.

"He's just a straight up guy," Cureton added. "Coach will make sure that you understand your position in the process, and will build a family type of relationship with you and your parents. He comes from where we come from so he understands."

"He's a solid individual. He'll let you know what you should be doing to prepare for the college level, and will be honest with you about where he sees you in the program."

Cureton has been involved with Arizona throughout his recruitment process, despite his pledge to SJSU. He was at the Hawkins High School camp earlier this summer, as well as Arizona’s 7-on-7 tournament, the one which led Nick Hultquist to his connections to the staff. Those two performances led Cureton to more connections with the staff.

"I've also gotten the chance to establish a mutual connection with Coach (Tony) Dews," he said about any possible opportunities at Arizona. "I’m just waiting on the opportunity. God willing, my senior film will allow that door to open. But they have QBs committed as well."

While Arizona currently holds commitments from Braxton Burmeister and Rhett Rodriguez, with Drew Dixon also coming in as a potential quarterback, the Wildcats have been an attractive option for Cureton.

"Taking the visit up there, it just reminded me of home," he said about the appeal of Arizona. "I know a lot of guys up there too. It seems to be an easy place to transition into. Plus, U of A plays hard nose football. It's something anybody would want the chance to play for."

He’s also very close to quite a few California guys on the team, including Khalil Tate, DeVaughn Cooper, Jamardre Cobb, Marquis Ware and Brandon Dawkins.

Cureton has been committed to San Jose State since December, but has received offers from Alabama, South Carolina and LSU since then. He still has Boston College, New Mexico and San Diego State heavily pursuing him. Oregon has recently been involved in his recruitment, but says it is hit or miss with the Ducks.
