Arizona football recruiting: Recapping a big weekend filled with unofficial visitors

A huge day of recruiting for Arizona

It was a big weekend for Arizona football as they hosted over 20 recruits from across the country. Many were commits, but there were also a handful of uncommitted folks in attendance.

I was not expecting the Arizona Wildcats to land any commitments this weekend. The list of visitors that I had didn't even have Troy Young or Delshawn Phillips on it, making Saturday a day of surprise commitments. This now pushes the Wildcats up to 24 commitments, which means Arizona definitely has a plan for the scholarship count. These commitments won't have a drastic impact on the team's remaining board, but still one commitment can alter a lot for those still seeking their potential landing spot.

Here's a quick recap of everything that went on in Tucson on Saturday.

2-star safety Troy Young commits

The first commitment of the day was Troy Young, a 2-star safety out of Mobile, Alabama. This now gives Arizona six defensive backs in the class and there should be one more four-star corner on the way. Luckily, this secondary group is extremely versatile and each commit could probably play any position necessary.

Garden City CC linebacker Delshawn Phillips commits

Arizona will be getting their first JUCO prospect of the 2017 class with a mid-year enrollee linebacker out of Garden City. Delshawn Phillips is originally from Michigan, signed with Western Michigan, but never made it to campus, which led him to GCCC.

6-foot-6 defensive end Tyler O'Neil on his visit

O'Neil was on the list of visitors and he posted a photo. I don't think much happens between O'Neil and Arizona except for maybe a gray shirt situation at most.

3-star OT Michael Richardson

Richardson, a 6-foot-5 260-pound offensive tackle out of American Fork, Utah made his way down. He holds offers to Arizona State, Oregon and Utah.

3-star safety commit Scott Young with his future secondary. This looks like a good secondary to me. Malik Hausman, Scott Young, Xavier Bell, Thomas Graham.

3-star WR commit Warren Jackson has strong selfie game

The 6-foot-5 target embracing his visit.

3-star LB commit Joshua Brown finally visits Tucson

The 3-star linebacker committed to Arizona without ever seeing the campus. He seems to have enjoyed his visit.

Malik Hausman checks in to Tucson

He had a couple of Nevada boys with him, as well as Arkansas WR commit Maleek Barkley

Matt Dudek doesn't mess around

This is probably why Young and Phillips committed.
