Sonoran Hot Reads: Jim Furyk makes late charge at U.S. Open

The former Wildcat put himself in contention on the final day of the second major of the year

Even though the biggest story of Sunday afternoon turned out to be Dustin Johnson going head-to-head with the USGA and winning, there was an Arizona flavor to the U.S. Open. Jim Furyk, who hadn’t played much this year, made a late run, and finished tied for second. "I played my heart out today. It was a lot of fun." He ended up three strokes behind Johnson, but it was still fun to watch Furyk play like that again

- Is Wilbur really the second-best mascot in the Pac-12? I mean, we’ll take it, especially since Sparky is third on this list

Basketball

- The Elliott Pitts situation became public over the weekend. It hurts to see it written down, but not surprising. Think there will be more to this eventually

- The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Title, which means so did Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye and Bret Brielmaier

- It might be Jefferson’s last game, as he is reportedly retiring and joining Luke Walton’s staff with the Lakers. Or, as Chris Mannix says, could play one more year and make bank

Baseball

- Sunday saw a couple more national seeds lose, which really opens up the brackets on both sides

- Our pals at Cowboys Ride For Free make the argument that their little plastic dinosaur will take down our Spiderman and Cheez-it rally hat

- Frogs O’ War did a roundtable with a few of us before the tournament started. I look pretty dumb in some of it now

- Cody Ramer and Zach Gibbons earned All-America honors

- Casey Bowman is doing a hilariously great job interviewing guys in Omaha. The first two videos are gold

- The coaches were happy with how the MLB Draft turned out for them. However, that doesn’t mean Jay Johnson is good at hitting baseballs

Tucson news

- It was really hot. Record hot. So you really shouldn’t go outside when it’s that hot, especially to go on a hike

BK's vs. Los Betos was the Tucson Restaurant Tournament matchup of the day. Thanks to all of you who have been voting in these

- The Zika virus has made its way to Pima County
