Arizona football recruiting: Reactions to 3-star safety Scott Young's commitment
A young Will Parks in the making?
The Arizona Wildcats now have 16 commitments ready to go in their 2017 recruiting class. With Scott Young's commitment, it gave Arizona eight commitments in 11 days. The class is currently ranked within the top 15 of all major recruiting services and the additions don't appear to be slowing down. Of course, their class ranking is heavily weighted by the number of commitments, but this class can still be expected to finish within the top 25.
By finally committing, Young is giving Arizona another great recruiting tool and will hurry up the process of many other recruits considering U of A. I figured his commitment was going to be coming sometime in the summer, but not this early, as he had quite a few other schools coming into the mix. The 5-foot-11, 175 pound safety could become a top 50 safety in the nation when the rankings finalize. I like Young a lot, and he reminds me of Will Parks in the secondary.
To me, it's crazy to see so much excitement from each member of the class. They're all believing in this coaching staff and program, waiting to build something great. When you look up and down this recruiting class thus far, you can already see how each player fits in the system. When you look back at previous classes, first off, many are not even on the team anymore for one reason or another. Second, a lot just seemed like roster fillers. But with this class, it's a lot of quality talent.

And many of these guys are extremely versatile. You could have Scott Young play corner or safety, same with Greg Johnson. Kylan Wilborn and Bryce Brand can play multiple linebacker positions and even Tony Fields is a guy who could move up to safety.
Now focusing in on Young, the 3-star safety out of Helix (La Mesa, CA). He also plays wide receiver, which is something I could see him doing at Arizona down the road if necessary, similar to Johnny Jackson. But ultimately I see him at safety, even with the five incoming safeties from the 2016 class: Jarrius Wallace, Isaiah Hayes, Tristan Cooper, Gavin Robertson and Chacho Ulloa.
Young probably projects best as a free safety or spur. Of course, it's extremely early to draw comparisons, but I see a young Will Parks when I watch Young on film. He can play in that slot position, he's aggressive off the edge and in the flats and seems to be a balanced safety.
Arizona is headed in the right direction with the defensive backs and I think this is a great piece to the 2017 puzzle. His highlights are here.
