Arizona baseball: Cody Ramer and Zach Gibbons named ABCA All-Americans
The two Wildcats are half of the Pac-12’s representatives
For a team that’s found its way to Omaha, the Arizona Wildcats haven’t received many individual accolades on a national level in this postseason.
That got rectified a bit on Saturday when the American Baseball Coaches Association named both Cody Ramer and Zach Gibbons to their All-American second team.
The two seniors are half of the total Pac-12 players named to the three All-American teams honored by the ABCA. Washington’s Troy Rallings (1st team) and Cal’s Brett Cumberland (2nd team) join them.
It seems like that Ramer and Gibbons have been tied together for their entire Arizona careers. They bat 1-2 in the Arizona lineup, they were both drafted by the Los Angeles Angels, and now here they are making an All-American team together.
On Monday, the two along with the rest of the Wildcats will face Oklahoma State in a winners’ bracket game at TD Ameritrade Park. The Cowboys had one player named to this All-American team. That was pitcher Thomas Hatch, and he pitched on Saturday against UC-Santa Barbara, throwing a shutout and giving OSU a 1-0 lead.
Ramer and Gibbons were a combined 3-for-7 in Arizona’s win over Miami, scoring three of the Wildcats’ five runs. They’ll be in action as the home team on Monday night beginning at 4 PM PT on ESPN.
