College World Series: Arizona will face Coastal Carolina in Finals

The Wildcats and Chanticleers will do battle for a National Championship

The Arizona Wildcats are one of just two college baseball teams still playing in the 2016 season. Not bad for a team that finished tied for third in the Pac-12 and was originally picked to finish ninth in the conference.

Arizona will now play a best-of-three series against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers for the 2016 National Championship. CCU beat TCU Saturday night by a score of 7-5 to join the Wildcats in the Finals.

To get to this point, Arizona has faced elimination six different times, and has come out on top every single one of those times. They have played one short of the maximum number of games in the postseason this year, with the lone exception being the sweep of Mississippi State in the Starkville Super Regional.

For the Chanticleers, they have also lost two games in this postseason, one in the Raleigh Regional against NC State, and one in the CWS to TCU. They are now 4-0 in elimination games.

So these two teams have taken very similar paths to get to this point. The Chants even swept an SEC team at home in the Super Regional, going to Baton Rouge and eliminating LSU in two games.

It’s an interesting final, and one that nobody expected, which makes it that much better.

The schedule for the best-of-three series goes like so:

Monday

4 PM PT, ESPN

Tuesday

5 PM PT, ESPN

Wednesday (if necessary)

5 PM PT, ESPN

The games will also be streamed on Watch ESPN
