Nathan Bannister injury: Arizona pitcher exits CWS game with forearm tightness

The Wildcats’ ace left the game with forearm tightness

After much has been made about the amount of innings, pitches, and starts Arizona Wildcats ace Nathan Bannister has thrown in this year’s NCAA Tournament, the 28th round pick by the Seattle Mariners exited Friday’s win over Oklahoma State in the third inning due to what he termed "forearm tightness".

"It was just precautionary," Bannister explains in the video above. "Just looking at Coach (Dave) Lawn and everything lately, we just decided it was a good time to come out at that point."

"It’s mostly forearm area and it just didn’t feel right."

While Bannister was pitching on almost normal rest on Friday -- five days rest being nothing out of the ordinary regular season week for him -- a build up of fatigue over the past three weeks makes an injury more likely, not necessarily being the ultimate cause for it though.

Bannister’s previous experience with this came in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2014. He started four games, appeared in seven, totaling 30 1/3 innings for the Orleans Firebirds that summer before having to leave.

It’s likely that we have seen the last of Bannister in an Arizona uniform. It was a pleasure, and it’s too bad that it had to end with a trainer coming out to the mound.
