Sonoran Hot Reads: Arizona faces pitching puzzle for rest of College World Series
How the Wildcats manage the pitching situation facing them will be interesting
With Nathan Bannister forced to leave Friday’s game with forearm tightness, the Arizona Wildcats now have quite the puzzle to solve to get through potentially four games over the next five days. This paragraph from Ryan McGee’s column linked above describes the situation perfectly:
And ... Johnson admitted that Friday's unexpected scramble has created a monster of a jigsaw puzzle going forward, no matter how many days forward that ends up becoming. This is one those puzzles that is so complicated that you leave it out on the dining room table where the entire family can stop by and put together a few pieces at a time, for like a month.
- Bannister’s exit forced Cameron Ming to pitch five innings on Friday, and he held off Oklahoma State en route to a 9-3 Arizona victory. The two teams play at Noon PT on Saturday
- For people wondering if Bannister will be back, the quote of "like there was nothing on the ball" doesn’t seem like something that just comes back to a pitcher in four days. He says the last time this happened all he needed was rest. Bobby Dalbec also said he’ll be good to go if called upon to start Saturday afternoon
- The OSU/UA game is early because Coastal Carolina forced an additional game with TCU after downing the Horned Frogs 4-1
Basketball

- Former Cal player Jordan Mathews can still terrorize the Wildcats this year as he’s heading to Gonzaga
