Sonoran Hot Reads: Arizona offers five-star center Ike Obiagu

Sean Miller trying to find his next big man

There are a few recruiting moves that the Arizona Wildcats and Sean Miller are making right now, and Thursday saw a big one, both literally and figuratively. Arizona has officially offered five-star center Ike Obiagu. The Georgia product is ranked the top center in the 2017 class right now, and the 11th-best player overall. Obviously there are a lot of schools in play right now, but it can't hurt that Kobi Simmons is from a nearby town, right?

- This should be a different story next year: Arizona has exactly zero players going to the NBA Draft Combine this year. Next year's team has four of the top 32 players in the country, plus Ray Smith, Allonzo Trier and the rest of the cast

- Ryan Anderson's not going to the combine, but he did work out for the Utah Jazz on Thursday. Listen to what he had to say afterwards

- Andy Katz thinks the Pac-12 should discuss court-storming at their ongoing conference meetings in Scottsdale

Football

- Rich Rodriguez was named the 24th-best coach in college football by CBS Sports

- Is Scooby Wright going to wear No. 50 with the Browns?

- Arizona is currently recruiting former Ohio State commit Bryce Judson. Why is he a former OSU commit? Because Urban Meyer didn't remember who he was

Verbal commitments are dumb. Why are they news? No one really knows, because they don't actually mean anything

- The receiving situation at Arizona is in "good shape"

Baseball

- Arizona and Oregon State start a three-game series Friday night at 7 PM on Pac-12 Networks

- It's one of a bunch of crucial series throughout the Pac-12 this year

- Former Wildcat Kevin Newman is tearing it up in the Pirates' farm system right now

Tony La Russa is trying to shutdown rumors that Arizona alum Chip Hale isn't on the hot seat with the Diamondbacks right now

Softball

- Oregon State is also in town for a three-game softball series, which will also be on Pac-12 Networks, starting at 5 PM PT on Friday

Other sports

- Steve Walker was named the first-ever Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Coach of the Year. Madison and McKenna Witt were named First Team All-Pac-12, with Jianna Bonomi and Katarinz Schulz pulling in a Second Team nod

- You can watch the sand volleyball team on TruTV at 10 AM PT on Friday as they open the NCAA Championships against Pepperdine

Women's golf is tied for first after one day of Regional play

Tucson news
