Sonoran Hot Reads: Sean Miller visits UNLV grad transfer Ben Carter

The Wildcats are going hard for this grad transfer

As the Arizona Wildcats look to solidify their front court for the 2016-17 season, Sean Miller and the coaching staff took a crucial visit to UNLV grad transfer Ben Carter's place on Wednesday:

Like Ryan wrote on Monday, Carter could bring a defensive presence down low that Arizona is sorely missing on next year's roster. Big Ten Powerhouse added another layer to the story, laying out what Carter could bring to Michigan State should he choose the Spartans. They also make the point that MSU and UA are the two schools Carter is considering that give him the best chance of winning right away, just not necessarily the minutes that he might be looking for in his final college season

- They also visited 2016 commit Terrance Ferguson

- Rawle Alkins will be a part of that team next year. His latest blog post for USA Today explains what he'll be working on before showing up on campus, and what practices will be like next year

- 2017 point guard Troy Brown listed Sean Miller as one of two coaches he's developed a strong bond with when talking with Scout's Evan Daniels. Brown attributes that to Miller being a point guard back in the day

- Stanley Johnson had a lot of strong takes about LeBron James and the Cavaliers after the Pistons lost to them on Wednesday

- Justin Simon has decided to transfer to St. John's

Football

- Ted Miller lists linebacker, kicker/punter, and quarterback as Arizona's three biggest position battles this offseason

- It seems UCLA A.D. Dan Guerrero was the lone Pac-12 dissenter in the satellite camp vote. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott seems less than thrilled about the development. Guerrero has defended himself, and really, none of it matters anyway, so who cares?

- Greg Byrne said on Monday that they plan on building an entirely new west side of Arizona Stadium in potentially the next four or six years

Baseball

- In a very unattractive game, Arizona beat NMSU 8-7 in just under four hours

- Before Wednesday's game, D1Baseball put Arizona in their projected field as a 3-seed in the Fort Worth Regional. College Baseball Daily does not have the Wildcats in their Field of 64

- Bobby Dalbec was named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year watch list by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. He is the only Pac-12 player on the 24-man list

Other sports

- New women's basketball head coach Adia Barnes filled out the rest of her coaching staff

- Women's golf finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. Krystal Quihuis finished fifth in the race for the individual crown

- Men's tennis lost to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championships

Tucson news

28 dogs were saved from an alleged puppy mill

- Water bills are about to go up
