Sonoran Hot Reads: Joe Pasternack emerges as NMSU head coaching candidate

Not much of a pay raise if he did go

With UNLV finally getting around to finding a head coach by hiring Marvin Menzies away from New Mexico State, the nearby Aggies are now in the process of finding their next head man. According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, one of NMSU's candidates is current Arizona Wildcats associate head coach Joe Pasternack. When the UNLV job first opened up, Pasternack's name actually showed up on that list. But NMSU doesn't seem very likely. As Bruce Pascoe points out, Pasternack makes more money as Sean Miller's assistant than Menzies made as NMSU's head guy

- It's been a really weird recruiting cycle for Arizona. Another thing that makes it strange is that none of these guys are from California

Football

- Off-the-field issues could result in Cayleb Jones not getting drafted, which is puzzling to Rich Rodriguez and Trey Griffey

Baseball

- The Wildcats host aforementioned New Mexico State on Wednesday night at Hi Corbett. First pitch is at 6 PM

Softball

- Arizona is still ranked 17th. They'll be on ESPN2 this weekend as they host UCLA

Other sports

- Women's golf moved up into a tie for second at the Pac-12 Championships. Haley Moore is in third on the individual side

Sand Volleyball will be at ASU on Wednesday in their final regular season contest

- Gymnastics remains the best Arizona team at community service

- The Pac-12 Tennis Championships begin Wednesday in Ojai, California. The men's team starts with Oregon, while the women's team will await their opponent on Thursday

Tucson news

- Tucson is one step closer to landing an AHL team after the Coyotes have announced their intention of buying the Springfield franchise and moving it to the Old Pueblo

- The city will move forward with the Broadway expansion project

This is a crazy story of a guy who was shot, robbed, and left for dead at Broadway and Sarnoff
