Arizona football recruiting: 3-star tight end Bryce Wolma flips commitment from Northwestern to the Arizona Wildcats
Wolma is the fifth commit of Arizona's 2017 recruiting class
After landing two verbal commitments late Tuesday night, the Arizona Wildcats added yet another member to their 2017 class. This time it's from 3-star tight end Byrce Wolma, who had previously committed to Northwestern on April 3, which came as a bit of a surprise. I had felt that Arizona was the leader in his recruitment, especially after I spoke with him after his unofficial visit.
Wolma is the fifth member of this 2017 class, and the second offensive player to commit.

Wolma hails from Saline, Michigan, checking in at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds. He's currently ranked No. 45 in the nation among all tight ends. He has a great relationship with the Rodriguez family, becoming close friends with Rich's son, Rhett Rodriguez, the other offensive commit of this class, since his dad was the coach at Michigan.
When we last spoke, he told me "I can 100 percent see myself at The University of Arizona."
Arizona has been adding tight ends every year since Rich Rodriguez has taken over, but none have exactly become a pivotal piece to the offense. It seems as if it's only a matter of time until they start to work their way into the offense, especially with the lack of size at receiver right now.
"It may not be the biggest target on the field for their offense, but the tight end plays in the backfield, on the line and even split out. A lot like the offense I run in high school, it's a very versatile role," Wolma said about his position.
Trevor Wood, Josh Kern, Matt Morin, Jamie Nunley, Brion Anduze will be serving as tight ends this season. Trevor Wood is coming back from injury and we saw Josh Kern catch a touchdown pass against Colorado. Matt Morin looks to work his way into the offense after joining the team last season. Jamie Nunley is a grey shirt who joined the program this spring. Brion Anduze suffered a knee injury on the first day of spring practice.
