Arizona football recruiting: 3-star defensive tackle Kurtis Brown verbally commits to Wildcats

Another defensive commit for Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats landed verbal commitments from two defensive prospects out of California on Tuesday night -- the first being 3-star linebacker Kylan Wilborn, and the second is Kurtis Brown, 3-star defensive tackle out of Liberty High School. I spoke with Brown a few weeks before his unofficial visit and got a great vibe from him.

He's ranked 58th among all defensive tackles in the nation, checking in at 6'3", 280 pounds. This is a much-needed addition to the defensive line, with a guy who could certainly be pushing 300 pounds by the time he's ready to see the field. He was in conversation with quite a few schools, including the majority of the Pac-12 and some SEC schools. But he has officially put an end to his recruitment process with his verbal commitment.

This is a commitment that was to be expected, it was just a matter of when he was actually going to commit. He was anticipating early summer, but I felt like there was a chance he would have committed during his unofficial visit a few weeks ago.

He has a great relationship with Anthony Mariscal, who also hails from Liberty High School and said that they had been talking about Arizona quite a bit. Brown also said he loved the culture change at Arizona under Rich Rodriguez, with the belief that this 2017 recruiting class had the potential to be great. He also noted that defensive line coach Vincent Amey had played a huge role in recruitment, which was a big factor in his decision process.

His junior year highlights are below.

This is shaping up to be an extremely strong defensive recruiting class. This new coaching staff is doing great things thus far, truly changing the culture in Tucson.
