Arizona basketball: Justin Simon transfers to St. John's

Justin Simon for Rawle Alkins trade?

Former Arizona Wildcats guard Justin Simon has decided where he will continue his college career.

In late March, Simon announced that he would be transferring from Arizona. Thursday, he decided that he would join the St. John's Red Storm.

That's some solid photoshop work St. John's.

"Having the opportunity to play for a Hall of Famer who has surrounded himself with an incredible staff that is all about getting their guys better was a huge draw in my decision to continue my college career at St. John's," said Simon in the statement above. "I feel like I can be myself at St. John's and reach my full basketball potential."

After coming to Tucson as the 34th-ranked player in the 2015 recruiting class, Simon did not quite live up to expectations, averaging just 7.5 minutes in 24 games his freshman season. He will not be able to play this season, but when he does get to take the floor in his redshirt sophomore season, it seems that he will have plenty of talent around him at the guard position once again.

According to Rumble in the Garden, St. John's may be playing with a short roster next year as new head coach Chris Mullin builds toward the future.

"Justin is an explosive player who we believe will develop well in our program," said Mullin. "He's an instinctive playmaker with good court vision and he distributes the ball well. We are glad Justin chose St. John's for the next chapter of his basketball career."

Good luck to Justin. It really feels like Arizona just traded Simon to St. John's for Rawle Alkins though.
