Sonoran Hot Reads: Stanley Johnson has big night for Pistons

Not a bad start for the Stanimal

A lot of former Arizona Wildcats started their NBA preseason play on Tuesday, but the one who was the most impressive, by far, was Stanley Johnson. The newest member of the Pistons led the team in scoring with 26 in his 33+ minutes of action. However, he also had five fouls and six turnovers. But it was much better than Brandon Ashley and Nick Johnson going scoreless while playing each other. Ashley did get three rebounds

Football

- Arizona's defense situation is not likely to get much better

- However, the offense might get better this weekend after Anu Solomon returned to practice on Tuesday

Baseball

- Rob Refnsynder and the Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs in the Wild Card game. The former Wildcat went 0-for-3 and stranded a couple guys on base after getting the start at second

- Mark Melancon is Arizona's last hope this year in MLB. The Pirates get underway on Wednesday at 5 PM PT on TBS

Other Sports

- Women's golf made a huge run on the final day in Evanston, and finished tied for first. Men's golf...well, they finished last in their tournament

- Women's soccer moved up to 15th in the polls and 11th in the RPI. Those are both second in the Pac-12 behind Stanford

Lauren Marker learned some valuable lessons as the 43rd-ranked women's tennis player in the nation this week

Tucson news

- Mars has been in the news, but Arizona is way ahead of the Matt Damon movie

- Is Tucson home to the world's oldest tree?

- There was a whole new meaning to the 'Bath' part of Bed Bath & Beyond on Oracle during Tuesday's storm

- A Nile Monitor lizard was found roaming the streets of Tucson. That's not normal or good
