Arizona football recruiting: Players taking official visits to Tucson for Washington State game

Arizona will have some nice visitors for Homecoming

It's Homecoming weekend for the Arizona Wildcats, and there will be several big-name recruits on campus.

Here's a look at some of them:

Khalil Tate

One of Arizona's two quarterback commits for the 2016 recruiting class is finally taking his official visit. It just so happens to be his birthday this weekend as well. But not just any birthday, his 17th birthday. Tate is one of the youngest senior quarterbacks in the nation, if not the youngest, and he's led his team to victory in every game he has played in this season.

As if he wasn't getting a head start with age already, he's graduating early, and will join Arizona in the spring. He'll be able to get spring practice under his belt and learn the playbook under all of the quarterbacks. But it might not be long until he starts to compete for the starting job.

Anu Solomon is a great quarterback for this system, but you can't ignore the elephant in the room. He hasn't progressed as much as you would have liked him to, and that's okay, considering the way the offense is designed this year. But that leaves the door open for a guy like Khalil Tate to step in. He's a playmaker, and that extra spring could be all he needs to unseat the starter, as Rich Rodriguez has never been one to hand the starting position right back to his returners.

Melquise Stovall

A USC decommit, Melquise Stovall will be using his 3rd of five allotted official visits to come to Tucson this weekend. He already took an official visit to Utah and Notre Dame, and his other two official visits have not been scheduled. He's a 4-star all purpose back, ranked 4th in the nation at his position, and the 170th-ranked prospect overall. He also plays a bit of corner, and this is key in his recruitment.

Arizona had been a player in his recruitment prior to his commitment to USC, and even while he was committed. He decommitted from USC back in early August, and was offered by Arizona a week later. A big reason as to why he decommitted was because USC wanted him to solely play offense. Meanwhile, he had the urge to want to play both ways.

I haven't been able to come in contact with Melquise, so it's hard to gauge his status with Arizona. He's a US Army All-American Bowl selection, and that's a popular time to commit for some of these high quality guys to commit. He's an athlete that can play anywhere on offense, and can also play corner for Arizona, and he'll come to find that out very soon.

Braxton Ransaw

The 2017 linebacker/running back out of San Diego will be in Tucson taking an unofficial visit. Arizona had reached out to him a while back, and they've shown some interest. He's been picking up some interest from some big-time academic schools across the country, so we'll see where Arizona fits. He hopes to develop a relationship with the coaching staff this weekend, and continue to pick up some attention from a Pac-12 school.

Terrell Burgess

A top 100 corner will be making his way to Tucson, this time it's 6-0 180lb Terrell Burgess out of San Marcos High School. He holds offers to Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah and Wisconsin. I spoke to him earlier this summer, and he liked what Arizona had to offer. The way Arizona's secondary has looked this season, this weekend would show him that he has the opportunity to come in as a true freshman and compete for a starting job, as we've seen true freshmen Jace Whittaker and Sammy Morrison thrown into the fire.

This is a young group of corners, and we're waiting for someone to emerge. Arizona also has Isaiah Hayes committed for 2016, and he's another very suitable corner for the system, who could come in and challenge to start immediately. And then of course there's Antonio Parks, who is grey shirting this season, recovering from an ACL injury.

Arizona is also in play for 2-star JuCo corner Elijah Battle, who told me a few weeks ago that Arizona was still his leader, despite offers from West Virginia and UNLV since his unofficial visit to Arizona.

By talking to Terrell, I get a good feeling that he will commit to Arizona, and it might even happen this weekend during his visit. He said he wanted to commit sometime during his senior season, and his team is currently sitting at 5-2, with three games remaining on the schedule before the playoffs. He's already been on campus for an unofficial visit at the end of the summer, so he should know what to expect, aside from the game day and homecoming atmosphere.
