NCAA Softball Tournament results: Arizona eliminated by LSU in Super Regional

Another year without a trip to Oklahoma City

In the final college softball Super Regional of the weekend, the Arizona Wildcats were swept by the LSU Tigers, ending Arizona's season before the WCWS for the fifth-straight season.

LSU won the game 10-5 a day after taking down the Wildcats 8-0 in game one.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, and were also up 8-3 after four innings.

And then Arizona had its chance in the fifth to make some noise. The Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs thanks to singles by Eva Watson and Hallie Wilson. Chelsea Suitos then reached on an error.

A walk to Kellie Fox brought in Arizona's fourth run of the game, and brought the tying run to the plate. Katiyana Mauga grounded to the third baseman, who got Wilson on a force play at home.

Chelsea Goodacre followed that up with a walk of her own to make it 8-5. After an LSU pitching change, two strikeouts ended the threat.

The Wildcats had another chance to at least tie the game up in the sixth. Wilson and Suitos both singled, then both advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch for Fox. But the shortstop flied out to first base, and that would essentially be it.

LSU tacked on two insurance runs to make it 10-5 in the top of the 7th. Arizona was only able to get a double in the bottom half of the inning, with a couple of balls falling just short of being home runs.

This is the second-straight year Arizona's season has ended in the state of Louisiana in the Super Regionals. Last year, they traveled to Lafayette to take on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, and lost both of those games as well.

Next season could be a little concerning, as Fox, Wilson, Goodacre and Suitos are all graduating seniors. But more experience on the pitching staff should certainly help as the program looks to return to its first Women's College World Series since 2010.
