Arizona football: Scooby Wright projected as 2016 first round NFL Draft pick
It's never too early for mock drafts!
Because this is a world where it is never too early to have a mock draft for the 2016 NFL Draft, ESPN's Todd McShay put his out this week, and Arizona Wildcats linebacker Scooby Wright III cracks his way-too-early first round.
McShay has Wright going 28th overall to the Denver Broncos. Mel Kiper's 2016 Big Board also has Scooby on the list as one of a dozen players just outside of the top 25.
In McShay's mock draft, he says the following about the Arizona linebacker:
He won the Bednarik award in 2014 as a true sophomore for being the best defensive player in college football. He isn't an elite athlete, but his effort level and playmaking instincts are outstanding. He's effective at pressuring the quarterback as a blitzer as well as when he's lined up as an edge rusher -- he totaled 14 sacks last year.
While Wright keeps getting larger and faster during his collegiate years, it will definitely be the effort that stands out when he starts going through the draft process either in 2016 or 2017.
It's hard to imagine a guy staying in college for his senior year when he's projected to be a first-round guy, but Scooby would certainly fit the characteristics of someone who would stay just for the college experience. But if Arizona finds a lot of success as a team in 2015, it won't be surprising to see a guy like him declare early and get that money.
