Arizona football: Blake Countess could add much needed corner depth

This late addition for 2015 is exactly what Arizona needs

All spring, it's been Jarvis McCall's starting job is his to lose to the current corners on the roster. That left it up to DaVonte' Neal and Cam Denson to battle it out for the final starting spot. But now the plot thickens, as Arizona is hosting a special visitor this week in Blake Countess, former Michigan corner. He just graduated from Michigan with a sports management degree, making him eligible immediately.

He was ranked 10th in the nation among corners and 135th overall coming out of high school and held offers to Arkansas, Maryland, and Penn State, among others. He originally committed to Michigan during Rich Rod's time, but never actually played under him.

Countess has plenty of experience, appearing in 38 games, 30 of which were starts. He also made a few big plays in the 2011 Sugar Bowl vs. Virginia Tech as a true freshman. His performance his freshman year earned him some honors including ESPN and BTN All-Freshman first team, putting Big Ten quarterbacks on notice.

Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending knee injury his sophomore year in week one vs. Alabama, forcing him to redshirt that season. His junior year he bounced back in a breakout season, snagging all six of his career interceptions and having a career high 46 tackles, later being named All-Big Ten first team.

This past season he saw a decrease in production, but was still named All-Big Ten honorable mention. According to Maize N Brew, the decrease in production was due to a change in scheme for the Wolverines.

If Countess does come to Arizona, that would be huge for the secondary as a whole. RichRod's main competition to land him appears to be Auburn.
