The upcoming 2020 college football season will be the fourth for Bryce Wolma, but it isn’t likely to be his last.

The senior tight end said Wednesday night during a post-practice Zoom interview that he intends to return for 2021, taking advantage of the NCAA’s decision to grant all fall sports student-athletes an extra year of eligibility due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“As of right now I have no plans of leaving or not playing next year,” said Wolma, whose 36 games played are tied for second-most among active Arizona Wildcats players behind only kicker Lucas Havrisik (37). “I want to maximize my time in college football. I’m not ready to hang up the cleats yet, that’s for sure.”

Wolma is one of 19 seniors on Arizona’s 2020 roster, including three walk-ons, all of whom would be eligible to return for next year whether they play every game this fall or none (like defensive end JB Brown, who opted out of this season). Even graduate transfer defensive linemen Aaron Blackwell and Roy Lopez would be allowed to return.

Based on conversations Wolma has had with teammates, he expects many of his fellow seniors to stick around for another go-around.

“I would say the majority of guys that I’ve talked to definitely are looking to use that next year as an advantage to them,” he said. “It definitely depends on the person. There are some guys that, maybe football just hasn’t been their thing, they don’t really love it, they’re getting ready to go into the workforce, they want to make some money.”
