Arizona offers 2021 4-star guard Shane Dezonie

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: JAN 15 Spalding Hoophall Classic

The Arizona Wildcats have offered four-star shooting guard Shane Dezonie, according to Andrew Slater of The Athletic.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard attends Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, the same school that produced former Wildcats Mark Lyons and Justin Simon. Dezonie is originally from Pennsylvania and once attended Hudson Catholic in New Jersey.

He is the No. 86 player in the 2021 class and No. 20 player at his position, per 247Sports composite rankings. He holds offers from other major-conference schools like ASU, Arkansas, Clemson, Kansas State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

“My game is a strong guard that defend 1-4, who can distribute the ball, and can score in different ways,” Dezonie told PhenomHoopReport.com.

Dezonie takes pride in his defense.

“My strength on defense is being a leader on defense,” he told SunDevilSource.com. “I feel like I could help my teammates because I really take pride in my defense. I feel that’s the main part of really winning games and championships is just playing good defense. If you lock down your man, they don’t score. Then you just got to capitalize on that end and score.”

In-person visits are banned until at least January due to the coronavirus pandemic, so it could be tough for Arizona to convince Dezonie to make the move across the country.

The Wildcats currently have one 2021 commit, four-star combo guard K.J. Simpson. Their class is expected to be smaller than usual since they are only set to graduate two players and don’t have any surefire one-and-dones.

The NCAA giving winter athletes an extra year of eligibility could complicate things even more.
