June 15 marked the date college basketball programs could start making meaningful contact with prospects from the 2022 recruiting class. The Arizona Wildcats have wasted little time in the week-plus since that date, extending scholarship offers to several of that class’ top players.
The latest of those offers went Thursday to Ramel Lloyd Jr., a 4-star guard from Temecula, Calif.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Lloyd is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 70 player in 2022 and No. 11 prospect from California. He averaged 21.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a sophomore at Taft High School, shooting 33 percent from 3.
His father, Ramel Lloyd Sr., played at Syracuse and Long Beach State from 1996-2001 and led the Big West Conference in scoring as a senior in 2000-01.
Arizona is the seventh school to offer Lloyd since June 15 along with Baylor, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, San Diego State and Washington. He also has offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Dayton, DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, St. John’s, TCU, UNLV and USC.
“I’m looking for a high level program where I can come in and have a big role on the team freshman year,” Lloyd told ZagsBlog. “I’m a big point guard that can score at all three levels, finish at the rim, guard one through four and just make plays.”
